Mobile Resources: Clinical Tools

Instructions for Downloading Mobile Apps

Below are step-by-step instructions for obtaining and renewing the clinical tools provided by the Charlotte Edwards Maguire Medical Library and the Florida State University College of Medicine. These clinical tools are available to active FSU faculty, staff, students, residents, and researchers only. If you have questions or need additional support for installing, updating, or using any of the resources below, contact Terri Johnson, Information Literacy Librarian.

5-Minute Consult

To register:

  1. Create an account by following this 5-Minute Consult link to their website.
  2. Click on "Create A Free Personal Account" and register for an account
  3. Sign in to 5-Minute Consult
  4. Use the QR code with your mobile device to access content.
  5. Add to Home Screen on your device.

Renewing your subscription:

You must log in to the 5-Minute Consult website with your username and password every 90 days to authenticate your subscription.

AccessMedicine

AccessMedicine can be downloaded on one smartphone and one tablet per user account.  Authentication is required every 90 days.

To register your device:

  1. Create an account by following this AccessMedicine link to their website.
  2. Click the the MY PROFILE in the right hand upper corner.  Select "Sign in or Create a Free My Access Profile"
  3. A popup window will appear.  Select "Create a MyAccess Profile" and fill in the requested information and select "Create Profile"
  4. On your mobile device go to the App/Google Play store and download AccessMedicine.  Log in and content should download.

NOTE:  You must authenticate your account online every 90 days.

Renewing your subscription:

You must log in to the AccessMedicine website with your username and password every 90 days to authenticate your subscription.

If you get a new device and need your account reset, contact McGraw-Hill Customer Service (onlinecustomer_service@mheducation.com) and request that your account be reset to allow for a new device.

BrowZine

You can sync BrowZine to as many devices as you like.

To register your device online:

  1. Creating your account online follow this BrowZine link, select "My Bookshelf" and then "sign up"
  2. Pick your favorite journals titles and add to your bookshelf. 
  3. On your mobile device go to the App/Google Play store to download the BrowZine app.
  4. Open the app, choose your library by selecting "Florida State University" and sign in with your FSUID & password.
  5. Sign into My Bookshelf with your BrowZine account you just created which will sync your mobile and online bookshelves. You can update/change journals online or on your mobile devices.

Note: You can also create an account just on your mobile device through the app.

Renewing your subscription:

No subscription renewal required.

ClinicalKey

To register your device:

  1. Create an account by following this ClinicalKey link to their website.
  2. Click the "Register" link in the top right corner.
  3. Enter the requested information and register.  You must use your COM / FSU email address.
  4. On your mobile device go the App/Google Play store and download the ClinicalKey app. Log in with your registered account.

DynaMedex

DynaMedex mobile license allows up to 3 devices of any platform with one license.  NOTE:  Requires at least 600 MB of memory.

To register your device:

  1. Follow this DynaMedex link and click on the round person icon on the top right of the screen
  2. If you do not have an account, select "Create Account" and create an account
  3. Download the DynaMedex app from the app store on your mobile device
  4. Open the DynaMedex app on your mobile device and sign in with your email and password you just created.

 

Renewing your subscription:

DynaMed requires renewal every six months

  1. Follow this DynaMedex link and click on the round person icon on the top right of the screen.
  2. Sign in with your email address and DynaMed password 
  3. Open the DynaMedex app and sign in, if necessary. .

Switching from DynaMed to DynaMedex:

  1. Download DynaMedex from the app store
  2. Log in with your DynaMed username and password
  3. Delete old DynaMed icon which will no longer work.

Epocrates

Spring 2024:  PLEASE READ EPOCRATES+ APP INSTRUCTIONS

Instructions for non-MD students:

  1. Create a personal account in Epocrates if you do not have one
  2. Contact terri.johnson@med.fsu.edu to request Epocrates+ access.  Include in your request your status. i.e. faculty, Resident, PA student, Nursing, or IMS
  3. Epocrates+ must be renewed ever year.  Follow instructions above for renewal.

Instructions for MD students only:

In order to activate the medical student offer within the Epocrates mobile app, you will need to list yourself as a medical student on your Epocrates profile. Once you have refreshed the Epocrates app, tap on any locked icon to trigger the offer. You can then verify your AMA Medical Education number to unlock free access to Epocrates+ within the mobile app, valid through the graduation year listed within your AMA ME number.

If you do not have an ME number, you will need to contact the AMA directly: AMA at msc@ama-assn.org or call (800) 621-8335. If you email you need include:  full name, date of birth and that you are requesting your ME number.

If you have any issues obtaining your ME number, contact support@epocrates.com and provide the following:

  1. Your name and email address of your personal account with Epocrates.
  2. Your university (e.g., Florida State University), year of medical school (e.g., 2nd year), and your FSU email address.
  3. The reason you are having trouble with the ME number activation process, your expected graduation year, and your area of focus.

How to edit your profile within Epocrates:

  1. Navigate to the URL (https://www.epocrates.com/profile.do) in your web browser.
  2. Login with your Epocrates credentials.
  3. Click "Edit Profile" option in the Account section.
  4. Click "Edit" next to Account Information to update your account name, email or password.
  5. Click "Edit" in the Profile Information section to edit residence and office information.
  6. To make changes to practice information, or your occupation, click the Office radial button.
  7. After making the necessary updates, click the "Save" button.
  8. If you change your e-mail or password, it will also be necessary to update your profile and login information in Epocrates on your mobile device.

 

 

Isabel Pro DDX

Isabel Pro  is a mobile-friendly differential diagnosis tool connected to DynaMedex. No registration needed.

To Access:

  1. Use QR code available on Isabel Pro website for access on your mobile device.
  2. Once you access Isabel Pro website from QR code with your mobile device add to your home screen for future quick access.

The Medical Letter

To register:

  1. Create an account by following this The Medical Letter link to their website.
  2. Click on "Mobile Apps" (located on the left hand side of the webpage).
  3. Fill out the registration form using the CoM mailing address (1115 W. Call Street, Tallahassee, 32306), your FSU email and create a password (password is letters and numbers only).
  4. Go to the App/Goggle Play store and install The Medical Letter.  Log in and download content.

 

Renewing your subscription:

When your subscription expires you should receive an e-mail from The Medical Letter stating that you need to reestablish your app.  Follow the instructions above to renew your subscription.

Micromedex

Micromedex can be downloaded on multiple devices.  You have access to all five Micromedex apps.  

NOTE:  As of November 2024, Micromedex is consolidating all content into a single app.  Drug Reference, Drug Interactions and IV Compatibility are now available for iOS devices in this new format.  Android update coming soon.  The legacy individual apps will no longer be available for download February 2025.  More information is available on their website.

To obtain subscription codes for all Micromedex reference apps:

  1. Follow this Micromedex link to their website
  2. Select "Download Mobile Apps" on bottom right OR "Mobile Application Access" on the top right of webpage
  3. Use instructions for "Micromedex Native Mobile Apps" and follow instructions.

Renewing your subscription:

Renewal is required every March.  Follow above instructions.

PEPID

PEPID mobile license agreement allows for download on one device only.

To register your device:

  1. Follow this PEPID Mobile Usage Agreement link to register. Read the message and select "Link to PEPID registration form" to fill out the registration form.  Once you submit the form you are finished with registration. 
  2. Download the PEPID app from the App/Google Play store on your mobile device.
  3. Open app, log in, and download content.  Select PEPID: Clinical Rotation Companion (CRC Platinum Suite) to download.

Renewing your PEPID subscription:

  1. Follow this PEPID Mobile Usage Agreement link to register.  Read the message and select "Link to PEPID registration form" and fill out the registration form. You must use the same email and password you previously created. If you do not know your username and password, go to www.pepid.com, select "My Account" and "Forgot Password."
  2. Open app and update content. To update content see instructions below.
  3. If you have trouble with your subscription, contact PEPID at 1-888-321-7828 x2

Sanford Guide

Sanford Guide allows one subscription to be place on multiple devices.  Must renew every year.

To Register:

  1. Go to Sanford Guide Mobile App Registration.
  2. Enter your FSU / COM email address to start registration. You will receive an email with a link to verify and complete the registration, including creating a password for the Sanford Guide.
  3. Download the app. Make sure you download the correct app which is Sanford Guide Collections App with the white & red (see icon above).

Renewing your subscription:

  1. You will receive an email when your subscription needs renewing.
  2. Follow the registration link above to renew. 

uCentral

uCentral mobile license agreement allows for one smartphone and one tablet.

To register your device:

  1. Create an account by following this uCentral link to their website and select "Mobile" to register for an account.
  2. Go to the App/Google Play store and download the uCentral app
  3. Open the app, log in and download content.

If you have a new device and have issues switching contact uCentral at 1-610-627-9090 x1

Renewing your subscription:

Updating your uCentral while on campus will renew your subscription.  Simply run your uCentral application on your mobile device and it will update automatically if there is an update.  If it does not update itself, there is an update button on the top left.  Simply click the button when connected to internet and it will update.

UpToDate Anywhere

The FSU College of Medicine provides access to UpToDate on up to two mobile devices (i.e., one tablet and one smartphone) for COM full-time faculty, staff, students, residents, and clerkship directors.

To register your device:

  1. Go to the Maguire Medical Library's UpToDate Portal. Log in to the portal with your CoM username and password.
  2. Once you are in UpToDate, click on the "Log In/Register" button in the top right corner or click "Want the UpToDate mobile app? Register Now" link below the search box..
  3. Register and create a username/password on the UpToDate site.  Note: After you’ve registered, you will receive an email confirmation from UpToDate that provides instructions for downloading the UpToDate mobile app.
  4. Follow the instructions in the registration confirmation email to download the UpToDate app to your mobile device(s).
  5. Open the app and sign in with your UpToDate username/password.
  6. Use the mobile app anywhere you have an internet connection.

Authenticating your subscription:

Your personal UpToDate account must be re-verified at least once every 90 days through the library's UpToDate portal on the FSU College of Medicine website. You will receive an email reminder from UpToDate, and if you don't re-verify in a timely manner, you will get a message that your remote access has lapsed.

To re-verify your UpToDate account:

  1. Log in to the UpToDate Portal through the library's website with your College of Medicine username and password.
  2. Log in with your personal UpToDate username and password. You will receive confirmation that your remote access has been extended.  This process must be repeated every 90 days.

Visible Body

Notice instructions are different depending on your location.  Currently only available on iPhone/iPad.undefined

If you are on campus:

  1. Make sure you are logged in to the campus WiFi
  2. Download 2020 Atlas Perpetual and/or 2020 P&P Perpetual (Physiology & Pathology) from the app store on your deviceundefined
  3. Open the app and use.

NOTE: You will have to open the app on campus at least once every 150 days to authenticate. 

If you are off campus:

  1. Go to Visible Body and select "Off Campus" and follow instructions.
  2. Select "Instructions for Off Campus" and select the app you wish to download. You will be asked to enter your email address.
  3. Check your email for a "Verification Code."  NOTE: If you don't receive an email from Visible Body check your SPAM folder from sender:  The Visible Body Team - donotreply@visiblebody.com
  4. Enter your verification code.  Then you will receive an email with your username and password to login.
  5. Download 2020 Atlas Perpetual and/or 2020 P&P Perpetual (Physiology & Pathology) from the app store on your device
  6. Enter username and password provided by Visible Body email into the app. 
  7. Repeat the above off campus instructions for each Visible Body app you choose to download.

 

VisualDx

To register your device:

  1. Create an account by following this VisualDx link to their website.
  2. Click "Get the Mobile App" under the search boxes and fill out requested information to create a personal login account.
  3. On your mobile device go to the App/Google Play store to download VisualDx app.
  4. Open app and log in with your personal account.

Switching Mobile Devices

Switching your mobile device:

  1. Back up old device to the cloud or your computer.
  2. Download apps to new device.
  3. Open each app and log in with your username and password you created for each account.
  4. Download content.
