Roxann Mouratidis, Scholarly Communications Librarian, was invited by the Medical Library Association (MLA) to attend the first InSight Initiative Summit held in Chicago, Illinois, March 6 and 7.

The purpose of the summit was to convene health information professionals from selected medical libraries and industry professionals from publishing and technology to engage in discussions on important topics in health information.

Mouratidis was one of 15 librarians across the United States selected by the InSight Initiative Task Force to participate in discussions with 15 industry professionals from organizations including The JAMA Network, Elsevier, and Springer Nature.

The theme of the summit was "Engaging Users in a Disruptive Era," and it addressed the following topics:

  • Leveraging specialized discovery tools to maximize user engagement
  • Security and the future of IP authentication
  • Lessons learned from pirate sites
  • Imagining the ideal social networking site for collaboration and sharing

The two day program included a mixture of keynote speakers, small panel discussions, and problem-solving group activities.
