Research Consultations

Individual and group consultations are available at no cost to Florida State University College of Medicine faculty, students, residents/fellows, and research staff.

Knowledgeable medical librarians will:

  • help researchers prepare for literature reviews
  • advise on search strategies
  • assist with terminology and database selection
  • provide guidance or instruction for relevant databases

Please note that students and residents/fellows are expected to perform searches themselves for any curriculum-related assignments. Contact librarians with advance notice of at least two weeks before your expected due date.

Literature Search Services

The Maguire Medical Library team specializes in finding and accessing health and life sciences information and published literature. Literature searches conducted by a medical librarian are only available to:

  • FSU College of Medicine full-time faculty in lead author/PI roles
  • FSU College of Medicine students working on a research team led by full-time FSU COM faculty member(s)

What to Expect

After receiving your literature search request, a medical librarian will:

  • briefly consult with you via email or a scheduled meeting/phone call to clarify search particulars and determine an approximate timeline for completion
  • select and search appropriate databases for the provided topic and determined criteria
  • share a list of citations from the search results (citations include authors, titles, journal titles, and if available, abstracts—not full-text articles)
  • send results electronically via Covidence, a citation manager (e.g., EndNote, Zotero), or as a bibliography in a shared document unless otherwise requested

Please note that it is not the responsibility of the medical librarian to select the most appropriate articles from the list of results.
